Topic: What is Purpose? - (Part I)
Fran Menley recently shared that "Purpose" would be a great topic for our Intenders Circle; she shared she thought it might benefit many of the Intenders with decisions they are facing right now. Fran also suggested a free teleconference offered by Jean Houston on September 20th, so I signed up for it and it coincides perfectly with our Intenders Circle - how perfect is that?
While Paul & I hiked the beautiful trails in the incredible Columbia Gorge this holiday weekend, I pondered how to make this wonderful topic of "purpose" a three part series. Now, sitting at my computer, I have found some wonderful thought provoking quotes, from thought provoking articles that I am listing for you if you are interested in reading.
I also created the following questions to get us started with some discussion and learning this week.
Please bring some of your own too.
Why does purpose matter? What does it offer?
Is life meaningful without purpose?
What do you believe "purpose" is?
Is purpose limited to anything?
Is "purpose" above and beyond basic physical and emotional needs?
Why is "purpose" often associated with an income producing activity or identity?
Can you actually avoid your purpose?
"Ideally, your purpose will be found within the overlap between your passion and your talents."
"If you don’t have a purpose in life, then you’re stuck working only within the context of need."

"Passion and purpose go hand in hand. When you discover your purpose, you will normally find it’s something you’re tremendously passionate about. Emotionally you will feel that it is correct."
"Your purpose isn’t really something you discover. It would be more accurate to say that your purpose is something you co-create based on your relationship to reality. I wouldn't’t exactly call it a free choice though. There may be multiple choices for you, but all choices are not equally valid."

"Life isn't about finding your purpose; life is about allowing and creating places to let it be expressed!"
~ A Nancism
"Live your life with purpose in whatever you are doing, and you will feel significant and capable because every action you take and each choice you make will have meaning to it."

We will close with this exercise from
http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2005/01/how-to-discover-your-life-purpose-in-about-20-minutes/
Here’s what to do:
- Take out a blank sheet of paper or open up a word processor where you can type (I prefer the latter because it’s faster).
- Write at the top, “What is my true purpose in life?”
- Write an answer (any answer) that pops into your head. It doesn’t have to be a complete sentence. A short phrase is fine.
- Repeat step 3 until you write the answer that makes you cry. (For some this could happen quickly, for others this might take answering the question more then 500 times or more. When you feel the passion in your words and it aligns with your heart - you have found your purpose).
See you tomorrow? RSVP's always appreciated.
